FILL THE GALLERY WITH NOISE
In 2009 I was commissioned by Plymouth Arts Centre to develop my series Actions for Radio Broadcast I was very excited that Sound House Brass (a first section brass band from Plymouth) agreed to perform written instructions for the Radio. During the project we developed a set of executable instruction in the form of a textual score and on Sunday 23rd August SoundHouse executed these instructions at Plymouth Art Centre gallery. On Saturday 29th August 2009 a 28 minute continuous note played by SoundHouse was broadcast on FreeSound Radio. The video work will be shown as part of Free Transform at The International digital art festival, Sofia, Bulgaria.
Fill the art gallery with noise is part of the series Actions for Radio Broadcast, an ongoing project, which is dedicated to systems based art and writing enquiries through collective, computational activities. . The work explores ideas of physical presence/absence within systems through enactive computation. Central to this is the impact of pervasive media on art & writing practices, the cultural imaginary and subjectivity.with thanks to SoundHouse Brass.
"Ed Baxter, founder of the London avant garde radio station Resonance FM,
heads a lineup of talented counter-culture icons who push the
boundaries of sonic space at the Plymouth Arts Centre. Electro-acoustic
musicians, multisound installation artists and writers will be creating
new works inspired by radio, featuring talented individuals like Tarek
Atoui, Hywel Davies and Helen Pritchard." (Jessica Lack - The Guardian)
