Open Orchard (2011)

Open Orchard took place as part of the first International "Pachube Internet of Things Hacakathon". It was a trans-local platform for people to collectively develop plans for the Internet of Things and sustainability. The platform combines three design elements; prototyping in the wild, playful interactions and situated learning; to create an open platform for both localised and distributed collaboration.
The project brought together hackers, designers, environmental experts, local orchard specialists, university staff, students, green Lancaster and the wider research community to discuss and prototype designs for the Lancaster University Orchard.
